Presented by Mark Wiszowaty, the first series of Long Lost Lines follows the history and ultimate fate of five railway lines: the Great Central, the Cranleigh Line, the Necropolis Line, the Bisley Camp Branchline and the Filey Holiday Camp Branchline. Each episode contains interviews, maps and photographs that bring the history of the line to life.

This 4 disc set consists of six episodes covering these lines and also includes a bonus disc containing: a mini documentary called The Rise of Beeching, additional interviews, still image slideshows covering areas of the lines not seen in the programmes and a compilation of footage from the preserved railways the series visits. In all, this bonus disc contains one and a half hours of extra material - giving a total running time for the 4 disc set of almost five hours.
